Our dear leaders at work

Sen. Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn.) on the Financial Reform Act:

"No one will know until this is actually in place how it works. But we believe we've done something that has been needed for a long time. It took a crisis to bring us to the point where we could actually get this job done."

Let's throw a bunch of populist ideas against the wall and see what sticks!

Soccer to me

7 hours of soccer last weekend, 4 games this past week, and then a 2-day tourney over Fathers' Day.

Not much to this video either. Quick glimpse of U9 Soccer (2nd/3rd grade girls). Emily is #11 (Red) with the pony tail. Not a lot of World Cup-type action. Just lots of chasing the ball up and down the field. Her team hasn't won a game this year, but the competition has been tough. We play teams that practice all year together. Plus, Emily's team only has one third grader.

Energy Independence

I've been dealing with some of the solar companies with work. They are in tough financial shape. They are adamant that the U.S. government has no [zero] idea about how to fund/subsidize alternative energy companies. Everyone talks big, but has no authority to act.

You should see the other kid...

On the second to last day of school, they had "field day." Essentially, it's like a mini-olympics. Katie had a few events. However, on the hurdles relay, she tripped over one of the hurdles.

She caught her foot on the hurdle and didn't have time to get her hands out to brace the fall. Unfortunately, face met track and the result is the image to the left.

Amazingly, no one took her to see the nurse.

We'll see how long this takes to go away.

UPDATE: The scabbing actually went away well faster than I expected. It was gone within the week.

Tourist in a our own city

Due to a Hyatt promotion, we had a night at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Minneapolis. It was our chance to experience some sites we hadn't seen before. Because the weather was poor, we didn't get to do as much as hoped, but enjoyed it nonetheless.

We had a nice dinner at the upscale Seven. Actually, I tricked/bribed the kids to go to a high end steak/sushi restuarant with the fact that Coldstone Creamery was across the street.

Post dinner and ice cream, we took a walk around Loring Park.

The next day, Emily took us on a tour of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden (she had been there with the second grade).

After a swim in the hotel pool, we headed to the ... pub of course. Brits Pub is one of the more famous establishments in downtown. We weren't there for the beer (although that helped), but rather the lawn bowling. It's like Bocchi - I'm told.

Emily and I faced off against Katie and Alison. Although a very close match, Alison and Katie won 11-10.
